2023 Volvo XC60: A Luxurious Intermediate SUV
January 16 2023,
Just like its siblings, the XC40 and XC90, the XC60 is back for the 2023 model-year, to complete the classic Volvo SUV trio.
Learn more about the Volvo XC60, its dimensions, technologies, performance and, of course, its price.
2023 XC60 at Volvo West Island: Performance and Hybrid Powertrain
The Volvo XC60 is available in Canada with two powertrain options with mild hybrid. The manufacturer calls “B5” its 2.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with mild hybrid, and “B6” its 2.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with supercharger and mild hybrid.
The B5 engine, a codename for Volvo’s turbocharged engine with mild hybrid, is able to do the following:
- Generate 247 horsepower with 258 lb.-ft. of torque
- Accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds
- Tow up to 3483 pounds
The B5 is only available in Volvo’s XC60 Core trim.
For the two superior trims, the Plus and Ultimate, the B6 engine is the only one available. However, you can opt for the B6 in the Core trim, as an option. The B6 delivers 295 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Combined fuel consumption city/highway is 9.4 L/100 km for the B5, and 10.0 L/100 km for the B6, which is more than satisfactory for an intermediate SUV.
No matter the engine under the hood, the XC60 has all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.
For those of you wondering who makes engines for Volvo, you might be interested to know that Volvo engines are manufactured at Volvo Car Group’s high-tech plant, in Skövde, Sweden.
Volvo engines have been specifically designed and built for the Swedish car manufacturer’s vehicles.
Interior of the 2023 Volvo XC60: Technologies
There is a lot of interesting equipment and a bunch of accessories inside the 2023 XC60’s cabin:
For example, already standard on the basic trim, the Core, we find:
- A panoramic roof
- A 12-inch digital dashboard
- A 9-inch central display
- Ventilated seats in Nappa leather
- Integration of Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store, etc.
If the equipment standard on the Core trim no doubt already satisfies some customers, there are other interesting accessories in the superior trims, such as a 360° camera in the Plus and Ultimate trims, and a top-of-the-range Harman Kardon sound system.
For the Swedish manufacturer, safety is just as important as entertainment, and it’s for this reason that all XC60 trims are equipped with the exclusive Volvo BLIS system, and the rear cross-traffic warning with automated emergency braking.
Thanks to these systems, Volvo’s XC60 can not only warn you well before an accident occurs, but it’s also able to brake automatically to ensure your safety and that of your passengers.
Volvo’s XC60: Cargo Volume
Behind the rear seats, the 2023 Volvo XC60 keeps a cargo volume of 483 litres for all your transportation needs. This volume can be increased to 1410 litres by folding down the rear seats.
In terms of size, the XC60 is right in the middle, precisely between Volvo’s XC40 and XC90. It occupies the intermediate SUV spot in the car manufacturer’s lineup.
Inside, we find a generous amount of headroom, as much at the front as at the back.
Whether for you, your passenger or your luggage, this Volvo SUV gives you all the space you need.
